Michigan Redistricting: A Model For The Nation? Evaluating The State’s New Maps And Process

This final redistricting webinar in a series sponsored by the Center for Local, State and Urban Policy (CLOSUP) at the U of M’s Ford School of Public Policy, Voters Not Politicians, and MSU’s Institute for Public Policy and Social Research was co-sponsored by Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, League of Women Voters of Michigan, U of M’s Program in Practical Policy Engagement, and Detroit Public Television and was held on January 19th.  The recording can be viewed here.

Local Leagues Educate Voters on Current Voting Legislation and Ballot Proposal

A slew of bills that will reduce accessible voting are working their way through the legislature and petitions for a ballot proposal that will eliminate options for seniors, the disabled and people of color are currently being circulated.  Leagues around Michigan are working to educate voters about what voting rights and protections are already in place and what the impact will be if some of these bills or the ballot proposal go into effect.  Several programs have been completed and you are welcome to watch the videos:

LWV Holds Educational Webinars About Proposed Redistricting Maps:
Six virtual webinars covering different regions of Michigan were held in October to inform residents about the proposed maps in their counties.  All are now completed and the recordings can be viewed below:

  • Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair Counties
  • Wayne County.
  • Washtenaw, Jackson, Hillsdale, Monroe, Lenawee and Livingston
  • Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newago, Allegan and Barry Counties.
  • Genesee, Midland, Tuscola, Huron, Isabella, Sanilac, Saginaw, Shiawassee, Lapeer, Bay and Gladwin Counties.
  • Northern Lower Michigan, Upper Peninsula
